Ryan Dettbarn attends DePaul University, and is a flute student of Jennifer Clippert, Woodwind Coordinator a the DePaul School of Music, and Mathieu Dufour, principal flutist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Ryan studied with Kelly Hill Kretzer for six years, and has worked in masterclasses or lessons with Randall Hester, Peter Lloyd, Kim Pineda, Keith Underwood, Julia Larson Mattern, Robert Aitken, Katherine Borst Jones, and jazz flutist Kris Keith.

At DePaul he has played in the wind symphony and the opera orchestra for Monteverdi's "L'Orfeo".

He has performed in solo recitals in Michigan, Ohio and North Carolina. At Adrian High School he played with the Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band and Marching band. Ryan has also performed with the Siena Heights University Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Lenawee County Honors Band.

In 2005, Ryan recorded a holiday CD, A Season of Joy.
